I have noticed that when they had the swearing in ceremony in parliament recently, nearly everyone took the oath of office with either a Bible, Gita or Koran in their hand. There were only 2 persons who affirmed to the oath of office. Is it that they are of possibly the spiritual baptist faith or something else or are they atheists?

They could be of a religion that forbids taking of an oath (Judaism, Quakers).
Also, since an ‘Affirmation of Law’ is just as binding they could have simply chosen to go that route to avoid any religious implications.

I would love to be in D.C for the presidential inaurguration next year. I want tickets to the swearing in ceremony and to the parade. Does anyone know where I can get these tickets?

Does ticketmaster put them on sale?

Are there any reputable companies that may have them?

Who should I contact?

LOL You have to be invited.

what was your reaction?
was his speech good?
do u feel sad or happy that bush is now gone?

(fill free 2 put down anything about the inauguration or about bush)

I would give his speech a B. It didn’t have quite as much soaring rhetoric as I expected (presidents usually use their inaugural addresses to motivate the country, and then use their first State of the Union to get down to the brass tacks). It ran 18 minutes, which, I think, is a reasonable time

Like Obama or not, it’s a testament to the strength of our country that we can all come together every four/eight years, even during a war, and have a peaceful transfer of power.

"The question isn’t whether we have a government that is too big or too small, but whether we have one that works."

Exactly right.

I have never watched any other inauguration on TV, but I guess it’s standard for the President and President-elect to go have a little 20-30 minute talk. It’s just been killing me, what the hell did they talk about? Conjectures?

Some small talks, as usual for an outgoing and an incoming President. And it could be like this:

Bush: Wish you all the best. However, it will be a thankless job for you’ll be ‘damned if you do, and damned if you don’t’. Good luck in trying to get out of these debacles – they will be more than a handful.
Obama: I need all that. But I believe in hope and change . . . . . . though the burden cannot be underestimated.
Bush: My line is open, and do feel free to give me a tinkle once in a while.
Obama: Appreciate that, man. If the going gets tough, hope I can shift some of the blame onto you, hehe. Well, that’s for hope.
Bush: Ya, and give them some small change, hehehe.

2 2009 USO Inaugural Ball Heroes Red, White, and Blue BallHeroes Red, White & Blue Inaugural Ball

Where: Warner Theatre

Who: George Clinton & Parliament, Larry King, Nancy Pelosi, Jalen Rose and Isaiah Washington.

Why: To raise civilian awareness about the unique struggles facing military families. Wounded soldiers from Walter Reed hospital — some in wheelchairs, some using canes — snapped photos with celebs, got autographs and were thanked by famous folk for their contributions.

Seen & heard: “I played Chicken George (in TV’s Roots), so I had to be here,” Ben Vereen said on the carpet. “I had to be in the vortex of this amazing thing in this amazing country.” Former NBA star Jalen Rose met Obama about three years ago. Although the two haven’t gotten together on the court yet, they joked about being left-handed. “You hear ‘nice guys finish last,’ ” Rose says. “But the election just destroys all of that. It makes me want to be a better man.”

2 Benedict XVI : in the media, a voice in service of peaceI think that the purpose of a communications tool like this one is to help build up a large family that knows no borders. One in which, with its variety of cultures and languages, all people are brothers and sisters. In this way they represent a force for peace. My wish to all those who are listening to me right now is that they may feel truly involved in this great dialogue of truth. As we know, in the world of communications, contrasting voices make themselves heard as well. Thats why its all the more important that this voice exists, a voice that really puts itself at the service of the truth, of Christ, and thus serves peace and reconciliation in the world
