“Several American congressmen have attempted to introduce such legislation in the 1970s in 1980s without success. However, Friedman’s influence was decisive in including, in the 1978 Humphrey-Hawkins Act, the requirement that the the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors give periodic testimony before a Congressional committee — a practice that remains to this day. This, Monetarists felt, would at least increase the transparency and accountability of the Federal Reserve.”

“Rather, they have …
“Rather, they have proposed that Central Banks be brought under stricter control of the legislative branch of government (not the executive!), which they view as more “politically stable” and thus better able to oversee the strict enforcement of a money supply growth rule.” The ideal case, in the eyes of many Monetarists, would be to have this rule constitutionally mandated or at least formally legislated, even internationally.”

“Friedman and other …
“Friedman and other Monetarists have argued that the solution to the political incentives problem is not to grant the Central Bank more independence as that would increase the arbitrary power of its governors and help them cover up mistakes or serve their political ends.”

Yes, Congress can …
Yes, Congress can change it. That’s why we are ABLE to make a law to nationalize it. But that doesn’t mean it’s currently nationalized. Just read one of Barney Frank’s speeches on the subject. On the Fed’s most important board (the FOMC) 7 members are appointed by Congress, and 5 members are BANK PRESIDENTS. No other government institution is partially run by the industry it’s meant to regulate.

Central banking i …
Central banking i believe is the real reason behind our wars. The Axis of Evil are all the countries that did not want to join the GCC Union backed by Central Bankers in early 2008.
Terror? Oil? Saddam Bad? One thing is Fact, the central bankers had no other way to secure the wealth of Iraq and enslave it’s People than using the USA as a tool.
Men who pledge their allegiance to ideals, corporations, or societies do not represent the American people. These men in 2008 are McCain and Obama.

It is “the central …
It is “the central banking system of the United States. Created in 1913 by the enactment of the Federal Reserve Act, it is a quasi-public (government entity with private components) banking system.” Also from wikipedia. It’s an independent part of the federal government. It can without prior approval, and Congress can change it at any time.

Here’s a bit more from wikipedia – “Federal Reserve has the authority to act on its own without prior approval from Congress or the President.”
JFK started coining his own money (per the constitution) and warned us all about the evils of central banking.

Cledus – The federal reserve is no more federal than Federal Express. Just because you put “federal” in your business name, does not default it to part of the government.
It’s a private bank that LOANS money to our government.

Nationalize the FEDERAL Reserve? It’s already a part of the federal government. Politicize monetary policy is just idiotic.

She really has a message worth hearing. Keep spreading the word. She’s taking a practical step by running for president. Getting 5% of the vote will mean resources that will lead to candidates like her winning local elections. It may even be a vehicle to get her back into congress. This time without the major party tether.

Imagine someone …
Imagine someone running for office who clearly states their positions, goals, plan of action.
People claim they hate pandering politicians yet they gravitate to the amorphous.
We should value honesty, integrity, forthright approach.
Pair someone with those characteristics (McKinney) to Obama in a debate and just maybe people will grasp the difference.
For that reason Obama wont even acknowledge the McKinney candidacy let alone appear in a debate.
Break 5% and they won’t be able to do that.

Take that Obama. Finally, someone with substance and we don’t have to pander to special interests. Can we get these two in a debate, like NOW?!?!

There are so very few people in politics that really understand “liberty” and are committed to it in practice.
Let’s hope the public has the commitment to vote for candidates who make the effort to make that happen.

I agree. If people really understood the relationship of big money and politicians, Cynthia could win.
If she gets 5% it will mean funding for her and the Green Party, FINALLY bringing it into big league competition with People Power as an alternative to big money owned politics.
